Homeless and helpless

Updated: Sep 27, 2020

  • Those sleeping rough report being homeless for an average of 5.4 years.

  • Domestic/family violence appears to be the leading course (42.5/10,000 population).

  • Mental health (21.2/10,000)

  • Drug/alcohol (10.9 per 10,000)

  • Young people (aged 15-24 years) presenting alone (11.1 per 10,000).

Homelessness can happen at any point throughout a person's life at no fault of the individual. It requires support from all levels of government and should be treated with a public health approach.
