Dr. Viktor Ko
I am a resident, rate payer and medical doctor, working and living in Perth. I have worked in all three major tertiary centres; Fiona Stanley (FSH), Sir Charles Gairdner (SCGH) and Royal Perth Hospital (RPH) and was elected to the City of Perth Council in October 2020.
My life revolves around Perth, I walk the same footpaths, catch the same buses and contribute finanically to the city through my council rates.
Previously, I had worked as a GP for Homeless Healthcare during COVID. I am currently employed through RPH State Major Trauma Unit.

As a councillor
-
Socially invested in Perth, not financially.
-
I have no business interests in Perth and would vote against any privatisation of council assets.
-
Approachable and open to all members of the community.
Who am I?
I was born and raised in Australia and the oldest of 3 children to Cantonese parents.
I obtained my MBBS from The University of Notre Dame, Fremantle (UNDF), alumnus of the University of Western Australia (UWA) Rural Clinical School (RCS) and a John Flynn Scholar (JFPP).
I completed a surgical residency at Sir Charles Gardner Hospital (SCGH) before moving to Royal Perth Hospital as a surgical registrar.
In August 2018, I began a 12-month tenure as the General Surgery Registrar at Kalgoorlie Regional Hospital. Upon my return to Perth in August 2019, I served as the Acute Surgical Registrar (ASU) at Royal Perth Hospital.
As an acute surgical registrar, I have done the basics; Successfully completed the Generic Surgical Science Examination (GSSE), Early Management of Severe Trauma (EMST), Advance Life Support (ALS) and Care of the Critically Ill Surgical Patient (CCrISP).
Med-School
I always found people interesting which made medicine very natural.
Before I was a real doctor, I was a Teddy Bear doctor, with the Teddy Bear Hospital Program run by medical students at University of Notre Dame with the goal of reducing childhood anxiety associated with medical environments, procedures and health care workers.
I recognised healthcare was not the same in rural Australia, which led to my active advocacy in rural health. I held the medical portfolio for the National Rural Health Students Network (NRHSN) in 2013 and 2014.
I am proud to have studied at UWA Rural Clinical School, this interest has led my practice to Albany and Kalgoorlie Goldfields Region.
During COVID
In 2020, during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, I took a step back from the hospital system to pursue general practice training, earning my FRACGP in February 2023.
During this time I was elected to the City of Perth Council, while providing care for economically disadvantaged patients through a not-for-profit; Homeless Healthcare. I operated along side my nurse collegues in out-reach clinics throughout our city including; St. Barts, Tranby Engagement Hub and RUAH Northbridge.
To be Cont.
Thanks for taking the time to read about me.
My story is ongoing.
I now serve as a Trauma Surgery Registrar with the State Major Trauma Unit, RPH.
